THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Centre has decided to send an expert team in the wake of
Covid-19 caseload increasing in the state.
A communique issued by the government of India, has said, "the Centre rushes a high level team to
Kerala for supporting the state in public health interventions in Covid-19 management."
The high level team will be headed by
Dr S K Singh, director, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the team will be reaching the state on Friday.
The team will review the public health interventions in management of Covid-19 by the state government and support the state health authorities in these measures.
The state has been reporting very high daily cases in the past few days. As per the statistics a total of 35,038 cases have been reported in the last seven days. Around 5,000 cases are being reported in a day. This is happening when the caseload has started declining in all other states.
The state health department itself had reported that the case load has been increasing in six districts after the local body polls. In addition to this the health department had also issued a warning that the case load might peak to 9,000 per day in the coming days. The relaxation given in the lockdowns and people started coming out in large numbers in public places are being seen as a major concern for the prediction.
As an ongoing process to strengthen efforts of various state governments for Covid-19 management, the Centre has been deputing expert teams from time to time to visit various states. The expert teams interact with the state health authorities and get a first hand understanding of the challenges and issues being faced by them so as to strengthen their ongoing activities and remove bottlenecks, if any.
