J&K Admin issues advisory on Bird Flu

Jammu, Jan 6 (UNI) In wake of the spread of Bird Flu in neighbouring states of Jammu and Kashmir, the government on Wednesday evening has issued advisory to all stakeholder related to the poultry sector across the Union Territory including consumers.
As per the reports, the Bird Flu has been alerted in five states of India which include Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana.
Whereas, the Jammu and Kashmir government had sounded alert following reports of bird flu in Himachal Pradesh, while joint teams of Animal Husbandry and Wildlife Department visited Gharana wetland in the outskirts of Jammu a and collected 25 birds droppings for testing to ascertain whether any of the birds is infected with the dreaded avian influenza.
Meanwhile, Dr Arif Bashir Technical Officer Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries in an order issued severe guidelines while urging poultry farmers to improve bio-security measures in the farms.
The guidelines to poultry farmers read that do not allow any artificial ponds, small water bodies inside and around farm premises which may attract wild birds and is a risk to the poultry, Keep the farm premises and shed surroundings vegetation-free. Regularly clean the areas.
“Also to keep feed supplies and water for poultry protected as they attract wild birds and rodents, always use foot dips at the entry into the sheds and feed godowns, Keep the poultry litter dry and fly maggot free, wet litter and fly maggot larvae attract wild birds, restrict the entry of visitors into the farm”, it added.
“Discourage outdoor rearing of poultry as the open type rearing of poultry will enhance the risk for introduction of avian influenza into the farming systems. Discourage multiple species of birds rearing in the farms Keep chicken separated from domestic ducks, geese and wild birds. Immediately report any type of sickness in birds to a nearest veterinary centre especially oedema in the comb and wattles, Purple dis-colouration/cyanosis of the wattles, combs, and legs, diarrhea, Nasal discharge, soft-shelled or misshapen eggs, decreased egg production, coughing and sneezing, Lack of coordination”, the guidelines read.
“It is mandatory for all poultry dealers to keep a proper record of the source of poultry birds and track of supplies to retailers to ensure traceability. Dead birds should not be thrown in open and shall be burnt or buried deep in the ground. Poultry retailers are advised to dispose of poultry officials carefully and at designated places and shall not through them in open. There is no need to panic and stop eating poultry products as there is no report of bird flu in J&K”, it added.
While as district Surveillance committees shall be constituted immediately to ensure checking of all poultry units and sale points.

IAA to get more land: MP CM

Bhopal, Jan 6 (UNI) Underlining the necessity for expansion of Indore Airport, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan assured on Wednesday that the Airport Authority will be provided 22 acres, official sources said.
“Our beloved state is the future logistics hub of India. The Indore Cargo Hub will prove to be a milestone in this regard. A logistics axis shall be developed within a 20-km radius of the Airport. I felicitate the local administration for appropriating a large consignment of drugs recently,” the senior politician averred.

MP CM distributes reimbursement

Bhopal, Jan 6 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan disbursed monetary compensation in Indore on Wednesday against land acquired for development of an industrial area, it was officially learnt.
Addressing an event at the Brilliant Convention Centre, the senior politician averred, “Our mantra is sabka saath-sabka vikas and universal trust is a prerequisite. As many as 121 of our cultivator brethren and landowners have handed over acreage. The factories to be established will translate into employment for in excess of 25,000 people. The land pooling process shall be implemented across the state. The corporate sector has lost confidence in China and desires to establish units in Madhya Pradesh.”

A total 586 hectares have been acquired in Pithampur, where more than 200 factories will be set up and investment exceeding Rs 500 crore made.
