London, Jan 6 (UNI) A UK court on Wednesday refused to grant bail to 49-year-old WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
Judge Vanessa Baraitser said in her ruling that "there are substantial grounds for believing that if Mr Assange is released today he would fail to surrender to court and face the appeal proceedings," CNN reported.
The court decision came days after he managed to avoid his extradition to US where he is facing criminal charges for violating an espionage law and conspiring to hack the Govt computers.
Assange, who is in London's Belmarsh Jail for breaking bail norms in 2012 when he entered Ecuador's London embassy to avoid his extradition to Sweden.
His legal was set to appeal the decision to deny the bail, WikiLeaks Editor-in-Chief Kristinn Hrafnsson said outside Westminster Magistrates Court.
