Former Andhra Pradesh minister arrested in Hyderabad for kidnap

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said on Tuesday around 8 pm, around 10-15 persons had reached Rao’s house in Bowenpally posing as officials of the Income Tax department.

Hyderabad: Former Andhra Pradesh Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya was arrested by the Hyderabad City Police here on Wednesday for her alleged involvement in the kidnapping of former hockey player Praveen Rao and two of his brothers late on Tuesday night. The trio was later let off by the kidnappers at Kokapet in Narsingi in Cyberabad early on Wednesday.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said on Tuesday around 8 pm, around 10-15 persons had reached Rao’s house in Bowenpally posing as officials of the Income Tax department. The men were dressed in formal wear and had identity cards.

“Pretending to conduct a search at the house, they separated Rao, Sunil Rao and Naveen Rao from the other family members, who were sent into a room while the three brothers were taken away in different cars from the house without the knowledge of the family members,” Anjani Kumar said.

He said during the investigation it was found that one AR Subba Reddy, Bhuma Akhila Priya and her husband Bhargav Rao along with others had planned the kidnapping following a dispute over a property at Hafeezpet.
