BJP MP Danve criticises Maha govt over agrarian issue

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Jan 6 (UNI) Union Minister of State and BJP MP Raosaheb Danve on Wednesday criticised the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government in the state for blaming the BJP-led central government of being negligent in procuring maize and sorghum.
On the one hand it opposes the (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi government's agri laws and on the other, it accuses the BJP government of being negligent in procuring maize and sorghum, he said in a statement here.
He said the central government provides funds to the states for the purchase and distribution of foodgrains every season but the state government did not provide necessary information about further procurement of maize and sorghum to the Centre and hence, farmers in the state are suffering.
Mr Danve said the state government had informed the Centre on August 7 that it had procured 7145,135 metric tonnes of sorghum and 1,15,096.539 metric tonnes of maize in the current year and also demanded the purchase of grains instead of wheat.
Accordingly, the central government had also shown readiness but despite repeated reminders from the Centre since August 18, the state government did not provide any information in this regard, the Minister claimed.
Therefore, it is clear that the state government was refraining from providing this information to the Centre and as a result, ordinary farmers were bearing the brunt, he said.
Therefore, the state government should take stock of the grain production this year and apprised the Centre on the quantum of procurement of maize, which will help avoid delays in the procurement process, he noted.
With this, more and more farmers will be able to take advantage of it, he added.
