London, Jan 6 (UNI) UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday said that coronavirus-induced lockdown in the county would be a "gradual unwrapping'.
Mr Johnson made the comment while addressing to the Commons ahead of voting on the lockdown measures.
In a statement to the Commons, Mr Johnson said the new variant had "led to more cases than we've seen ever before" and that this had left the government with "no choice but to return to national lockdown", BBC reported.
He did not want to shut the schools, but he was forced to do so. He said when the restrictions remove, schools would be the very first to resume the classes.
On Monday, the country reimposed the lockdown to curb the virus infections.
The country's COVID-19 tally crossed 60,000-mark on Tuesday. The country facing new wave of virus due to new highly transmissible variant of the virus, which was first found in Kent, England.
