PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has planned to appoint a consultant for the Katraj-Kondhwa road. The consultant will have to keep an eye on post-tenders works for this project.
According to PMC officials, the tenders have been issued urging project consultants to bid for the post-tender works.
"The consultant should be empanelled in the list of consultants at PMC. He should have experience of doing work of more than Rs 50 lakh," said a senior official of PMCs road department.
The consultant will check the progress report for the work. Timely updates on the status of work will be shared with PMC. Any shortfall has to be reported. The quality of the material to be used for construction will have to be checked.
Residents in the Katraj-Kondhwa road area want the civic authorities to complete the long-pending road widening work at the earliest. The project works were inaugurated in 2018 by the then chief minister Devendra Fadnavis but land acquisition issues have delayed the project.
Sajag Nagrik Manch, a citizens group has opposed the issuance of tenders for post-tender works of Katraj Kondhwa road. It has raised questions on the very need of appointing such consultant.
"What is the need of such consultant? The PMC officials should take the responsibility of these civic works instead of giving it to a third party," said Vivek Velankar of the Manch.
The group has also demanded that if the consultant is to be appointed, the condition of mandatory registration at the PMC should be removed. "Mandatory registration contrast with the orders of PMC commissioner office issued on April 2020. Such conditions reduce the scope of competition," said Vivek Velankar of the Manch.
V G Kulkarni, head of PMC's road department said that they had put the condition to check the experience of the consultant.
