CHANDIGARH: The UT government schools announced results of the terminal exams of classes III to XII on Tuesday. In most schools, 60% to 90% students of classes IX to XIII passed the exams. The results have improved this time. According to teachers, these results are not authentic especially in case of students, who appeared for the exams from home as the students could have used books while answering questions.
The teachers further feel that if the final exams are conducted offline, the results would be visibly low especially for classes IX and XI.
According to different school heads, students who appeared in online exams have scored better that those who appeared in offline mode.
“In the online, the option to keep the books in front remains a convenient option,” said a teacher on anonymity.
Around 20% to 25% students appeared for offline mode of exams. The terminal exams were held from December 15 to December 28, 2020. Exams were online only for classes III to V. And for other classes, both options were given to students.
Teachers also fear poor results in classes X and XII this year because students of classes IX and XI were passed after giving grace marks due to the pandemic.
They also feel that the education department would again give grace marks to pass students in classes IX and XI which would impact the results in board classes.
“Already, the no-detention policy makes us pass all students till class VIII irrespective of the grades and then grace marks are given in class IX to pass the students,” shared one of the teachers.
