Betel leaves disposed

Imphal, January 05 2021: Volunteers of the National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) along with local clubs of Nambol Khabi burnt huge quantities of betel leaves today which were seized from Imphal Airport.

NIPCO claimed that large quantities of betel leaves are being brought to the State daily by flights.

This is one of the major causes of the people of the State getting addicted to tobacco and other harmful products, it added.

Amid the sustained efforts by various students organisations, local clubs, Meira Paibis and CSOs to ban all these harmful products and save the people from the jaws of drugs and other intoxicating substances, NIPCO alleged that such activities like supplying betel leaves pose a big challenge to the cause.

The committee further appealed to all concerned to stop bringing in betel leaves immediately in the interest of the State.
