Hyderabad: The State has received five medical oxygen generation plants under Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM CARES) Fund Trust. The five oxygen generation plants in Telangana are part of 162 such facilities being established across the country in public healthcare facilities with an expenditure of Rs 201.58 crore under PM CARE.

The procurement will be done by the Central Medical Supply Store (CMSS), an autonomous body of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and 162 plants with a total capacity of 154.19 metric tonnes will be installed in 32 States and UTs across the country.

The total project cost is Rs. 137.33 crore for supply and commissioning of the plants and management fee of CMSS and around Rs. 64.25 crore towards comprehensive annual maintenance contract.

“These plants will not only help meet the demand for oxygen during the ongoing pandemic but will also strengthen our public health system in the long term,” Director of Public Health (DPH), Dr. G Srinivasa Rao, said.

Since last August, when cases of Covid infections were at its peak in Telangana, the State government had led a concerted effort to establish oxygen facilities at tertiary government hospitals and established huge capacity liquid oxygen tanks within the premises at Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Gachibowli. Such medical gas tanks are already available at Gandhi Hospital and NIMS.

Similar oxygen facilities will be established in several government hospitals including MGM Hospital in Warangal, District Hospital, King Koti, Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Mehdipatnam, Osmania General Hospital in Afzalgunj, Fever Hospital in Nallakunta, Chest Hospital, Erragadda and Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Gachibowli.
