Maharashtra government sets up committee to suggest appropriate site for metro car sheds

MUMBAI: A committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of state chief secretary Sanjay Kumar to recommend an appropriate site for the car sheds of various metro lines.
The terms of reference include whether the Aarey metro car shed plot will suffice for the period for which it is designed, whether more land will be required and would trees be required to be cut.
It will examine from the public interest point of view as well as for ease of operations whether the Kanjurmarg plot or Aarey plot is more appropriate for the car shed; will the Kanjurmarg plot suffice to meet the traffic needs of Metro Line 3, 4 and 6 and how best to integrate Metro Line 3 and 6 to ensure smooth operations. The committee will submit its report within a month.
The committee includes the environment secretary, BMC commissioner, Divisional Commissioner, Konkan Division, Transport Commissioner, Maharashtra, Administrative Director, MMRC, K V Krishna Rao, professor, Centre for Urban Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay, Pramod Ahuja, Director (Works), MMRDA and Sonia Sethi, additional metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA.
