Amit Khatri on study leave, Gurugram to get a new DC soon

Amit Khatri
GURUGRAM: The district will get a new deputy commissioner (DC) soon as the current one, Amit Khatri, has opted for study leave and will be leaving.
Sources said the state government is likely to appoint the new official in a day or two.
Haryana chief secretary Vijai Vardhan confirmed the development and said Khatri opted to take leave for studies on his own.
“I had applied for a study leave in July last year and it has now been approved. It was long planned. I will be going to Columbia University in New York to pursue a masters in public administration in development practice,” Khatri told TOI.
The duration of the leave is around 18 to 21 months. Tuesday will be Khatri’s last working day at the DC office.
A 2011-batch IAS officer of the Haryana cadre, Khatri was appointed as the DC of Gurugram in February 2019, just before the Lok Sabha elections and Assembly elections in the state. Khatri had replaced Vinay Pratap Singh, who is currently the commissioner of the municipal corporations of Gurugram and Faridabad.
“The most challenging task undoubtedly during my tenure as the DC was Covid-19, which itself had many other challenges like enforcement, migrants and other issues. There were various other emergent issues like air pollution and rains too when I had the charge of MCG commissioner also,” Khatri said.
Khatri, who holds a BTech degree, had also served as the additional commissioner of MCG from March 2016 to May 2017 and was then appointed the DC of Jind. He was the DC of Jind from May 2017 to February 2019. He was also given the additional charge of MCG commissioner from July 2019 till December 2019.
