Former IAS, IPS, judges, and academicians have come on Monday in support of the conversion law in Uttar Pradesh. In a letter to 224 former bureaucrats and judges written to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, it has been said that this law has protected the dignity of women. It should be applied to everyone beyond caste and religion.

Five days earlier, 104 former bureaucrats had demanded the repeal of the law, accusing the UP government of doing politics of hate. Now this letter signed by 224 former officers is being considered as the answer to the same.

The letter written by these retired officers led by former UP chief secretary Yogendra Narayan supports the conversion law. At the same time, the previous letter written by former bureaucrats has been said to be inspired by politics. It has been said in the letter that it is wrong to teach CM Yogi Adityanath the constitution. Former officers said in their letter, "We appeal to all the state governments to implement such laws in order to maintain law and order and social harmony in the public interest."

Many princely states also enacted similar laws during the British Raj. This poses no threat to the Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb of Uttar Pradesh. This ordinance is effective against those who cheat by hiding religion and caste. The letter has been signed by former Chief Secretary of Punjab Sarvesh Kaushal, former Chief Secretary of Haryana Dharamvir, former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Justice Rajendra Menon, former Ambassador Laxmi Puri, and former Maharashtra Director General of Police Pravin Dixit. UP Governor Anandiben Patel on November 28 approved the Unlawful Prevention of Religion Ordinance.

Critics want to spread communal fire

The letter accuses critics of calling the law illegal and anti-Muslim, that they want to spread communal fire by inciting religious minorities. Some retired officers are opposing the law. Politically, these officials, who advocate one side, do not represent thousands of former officials. This attempt by such officers is also to weaken the constitutional framework.
