Telenor Norway obtains NOK 6 mln in state funding to improve northerly maritime emergency communications

Telenor Norway said it is working with the Ministry of Justice and Public Security to ensure reliable emergency communications for shipping in the polar and northerly maritime regions, by establishing a High Frequency (HF) radio network in the far north. The government has approved NOK 6 million to enable Telenor to set up HF transmitters on Svalbard and in Hammerfest, with overlapping coverage in case one goes off line.
