Gehlot seeks PM's intervention into mutual rhetoric b/w SII, Bharat Biotech

Jaipur, Jan 5 (UNI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention into the tussle between Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech, whose companies have got approval for coronavirus vaccine.

The war of words between the pharma companies is over efficacy of the vaccines.

Taking to social media, Mr Gehlot said after the vaccines of both the organisations got approval in India, mutual rhetoric between the companies is unfortunate.

SII chief Adar Poonawala termed Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech as 'safe as water.'

Covaxin is yet to complete its phase three trial and present efficacy data.

Hitting back, Bharat Biotech Chairman and Managing director on Monday raised questions over the approval given to SII for the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. SII has partnership with Astrazeneca Oxford for manufacturing vaccine.

SII was the other company besides Bharat Biotech to get nod from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) on Sunday for Covid-19 vaccine.
