Mercury may spiral up this week in Kolkata

The Met office expects the minimum temperature to rise by a degree everyday till Friday
KOLKATA: The mercury climbed to 14.1°C in Kolkata on Monday even as a western disturbance (WD) across northwest India obstructed the flow of the chilly northwesterly wind. The maximum temperature, too, climbed to 28°C and the mercury will continue to spiral up through the week, said the Met office.
"A WD that stretches from Maharashtra to Kashmir has come in the way of the northwesterly. While it has triggered rain in north India, including Delhi, it has made the temperature go up in Kolkata. We expect the minimum temperature to rise by a degree everyday till Friday," said Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) director GK Das. He added that the minimum temperature could climb up to 17°C by the weekend.
