Juan Daniel Visagie, 25, was charged with grievous body harm and sent to Hakea Prison in September last year after it was alleged he had shaken 30-day-old Aleaha at a home in Gosnells.

Aleaha was taken to Armadale-Kelmscott Memorial Hospital on September 4 just before midnight, where doctors identified serious injuries believed to be life-threatening.

Just a month earlier, Mr Visagie had posted to social media about his daughter saying she was "perfect".

"It’s always the best feeling in the world finishing work and coming home to my baby girl she’s perfect and growing so fast," he wrote.

A police spokesman said homicide squad detectives would decide whether to upgrade Mr Visagie's current grievous body harm charge once the child's post-mortem examination was finalised and all medical information was reviewed.
