Dr RK Ranjan bats for promotion of food processing and marketing skill

Imphal, January 04 2021: Inner Manipur Lok Sabha MP, Dr RK Ranjan has called on all to promote food processing and marketing skill to turn Manipur into a global commercial hub.

The MP made the appeal at the launch function of the 5-day Skill Development Programme conducted at Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM), Lamphelpal today.

The training programme conducted on the theme 'Value Addition to Fruits, Vegetables and Spices Processing' is jointly organised by CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru, Govt of India and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Exports Development Authority, Govt of India.

Many valuable and expensive fruits and vegetables are found abundantly in the State, however they are not adequately processed due to lack of skills and ideas and such these fruits and vegetables are left to perish, said the MP.

Above these, there are many fruit and vegetable items which are rich in nutrients and medicinal values but due to lack of exploration and idea to add values, the people are unable to make best use of these items, he said while appealing to all to develop and promote food processing skills and add values to the products.

Urging not to attend the programme for the sake of certificate only, the MP also urged all the trainees to attentively grasp the skills during the training programme and apply them at the time of starting their own production ventures.

There are many State Government and Central Government sponsored schemes which encourage entrepreneurs, he said while adding that there are also many banks which are willing to extend support to hardworking and promising entrepreneurs.

The inaugural function of the training programme was also attended by Commissioner cum Secretary of Revenue, Textile, Commerce and Industries Corporation, RK Dinesh; Dr Ng Iboyaima respectively as guest of honour and programme coordinator.
