MUMBAI: A Vasai resident was duped of Rs 80,000 by fake Facebook friend. The accused had sought monetary help of Rs 15,000 saying that it was an emergency but eventually duped him of Rs 80,000.
According to the police, the 38-year-old victim was chatting with the accused on the social networking site. The accused then asked if he could give him Rs 15,000. The victim agreed and sent an ewallet number to transfer the amount. The victim then transferred the money but the transaction failed. The accused then asked the victim if he could share his credit card details and OTP. Without suspecting anything amiss, the victim provided the details. Within minutes, Rs 80,000 got debited from the victim’s account.
A case of cheating has been registered against the accused by the Manickpur police. The cops have also asked people not to divulge their personal and bank account details to anyone.
