As Tamil Nadu braces for the first-of-its-kind election in a pandemic crucible, Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) are needed more in numbers to cater for every booth, with the new rule of 1000 voters per booth in place.

State Election Commissioner Satyabrata Sahoo briefed the press on TN's infrastructure to house EVM machines. Barring Chennai and Madurai, in all the other 30 districts the state government pumped Rs 120.87 crores for godowns to store the machines, he said.
For Chennai and Madurai Rs 7.16 crores and 6.19 crores have been invested for this purpose.
With the state heading for elections in April, godowns in Dharmapuri, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Theni, Villupuram and Namakkal are in ready condition. Also, 31 more godowns will be available from March, he added.
