AHMEDABAD: The eastern part of the city seem to have become a crime hotspot, with three armed robberies and two murders reported in just four days. Three robberies were reported on the first three days of the New Year.
Cops investigating the two armed robberies, at a grocery store in Krishnanagar on Saturday afternoon and a jeweller’s shop on Sunday night, with a total of Rs 6.77 lakh stolen, said the perpetrators seem to be the same.
“CCTV footage of both robberies seem to show the same perpetrators. In both the cases, pistols were used. This implies that one gang is operating the eastern parts of the city,” added a senior police official.
The official said that in both cases, the accused fired shots in the air to scare off members of the public and the similar modus operandi strengthens the theory that one gang is behind both offences.
Foot patrolling in sensitive areas
Cops have responded by intensifying their foot patrols in the Khokhra, Ramol, Nikol and Krishnanagar areas during the day.
“We have several teams. Some have been deployed for patrolling and others are tracking the criminals. We are also assuring jewellers and other businessmen in the area that they will be kept safe.
“The city police chief had a series of meetings with senior officers responsible for the eastern parts of the city, including additional commissioner of police Gautam Parmar, over the matter.
