Awareness on 'Eat Right' held at Imphal East

Imphal, January 04 2021: An awareness programme on 'Eat Right' (Imphal East Manipur) special camp for consumers awareness including food testing (food safety on hills) organised by designated office Food Safety Administration, Imphal East and District Administration was held today at at Kongba Khunou.

The programme was attended by Nongmaithem Jadumani, Pradhan, Uchekon Nongpok GP; Ch Sanajaoba, Food Analyst Nodal Officer, Food Testing Lab and Th Sunilkumar, Nodal Officer.

Eat Right Challenge.

Speaking on the awareness programme, Th Sunilkumar said.

Imphal East was selected amongst the 150 cities selected for pan India campaign titled 'Eat Right India' and today's awareness programme was a part of it.

He added that discussion on procedures to regulate and issue food safety license under FSSAI to catering service providers mainly in temples and other places and 5 schools have been selected under the campaign and awareness on healthy diets are being given to them.

Th Sunilkumar added that there are strict directives from the Government that no manufacturing, retailer, wholesalers or business unit can be operated without proper documentation and license under FSSAI.

He also urged the people to take benefits provided under the campaign and said if they have any concern regarding the safety of the food they are consuming, even if it is vegetables, they can visit the Designated Officer at Imphal East DC and have it tested on any working day.

Regarding the issue related to issue of swine flu, he said it is necessary for all the pigs to be certified by veterinary officials before they are slaughter and sent out to consumer market for public consumptions and he also necessitated the need for running shops dealing with meat by only those under license by relevant Government authority.

He also added that the Veterinary Department was trying to open a well maintained and regulated 'slaughter house' which will make it possible for qnly safety certified meats to reach the public.
