UDF serves notice seeking removal of Kerala assembly speaker

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF has given a notice seeking the assembly to pass a resolution for the removal of speaker P Sreeramakrishnan from the post. The notice has been given by M Ummer, the IUML member in the legislative assembly. In the notice he said the accused in the gold smuggling case have mentioned the name of the speaker saying that they had strong connection with him.
It has also become evident that the speaker had attended the inauguration of a unit owned by one of the accused in the gold smuggling case. This shows the strong links the speaker had with these people.
It has brought shame to the assembly and to the position he holds. The media reports that the customs are going to question the speaker in connection with the gold smuggling case has given shock to the entire state. This is an unprecedented situation and no speaker in the past had involved in such a controversy, stated the notice.
