India won the second Test by eight wickets in Melbourne last week but changes are expected with Rohit Sharma, who has overcome an injury, a chance to return to the starting lineup.
Rahul played the last of his 36 Test matches in September 2019, but has remained a regular in the shorter formats since then and was involved in the one-day international and Twenty20 international series against Australia.
