While searching for food in bins in the Durban CBD on Saturday, a homeless man found several foetuses in a bag.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said that homeless people had been looking for food in bins in Maud Mfusi Street when one of them made the discovery.

"He removed the bag and was astonished when he saw foetuses inside," Naicker said.

The homeless people alerted security company Blue Security.

"The [Blue Security] officer had been on routine patrol in the area when he was flagged down by vagrants in the park who alerted him to their discovery of between seven and 10 unborn foetuses dumped in some nearby trash," said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.

Naicker added: "The police were summoned and [a] concealment of birth docket [was] opened at the Durban Central police station for investigation."
