Doha, Jan 5(UNI) Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar have started the process of normalization of ties starting with moves towards opening airspace as well as land and sea border between the two countries.
The Qatar News Agency tweeted late on Monday
"Foreign Minister of the State of Kuwait announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar reached an agreement to open airspace as well as land and sea border starting tonight."
The news agency also stated that these moves towards reconciliation have received support from the Turkish government and the Gulf Cooperation Council(GCC), it tweeted
"Turkey welcomed the decision to open the airspace, land and sea borders between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, saying the development was an important step towards resolving the Gulf crisis that has been going on since June 2017."
The Qatar News Agency said that the development was welcomed by the GCC
"GCC Secretary-General welcomed the opening of airspace, land and sea borders between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, adding that the move reflects the commitment and sincere efforts being made to ensure the success of the summit"
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia along with its allies the United Arab Emirates(UAE), Bahrain and Egypt had imposed a diplomatic, trade and travel embargo on Qatar on mid-2017 accusing it of supporting terrorism. Qatar for its part has always denied these allegations and called the embargo an effort to undermine its sovereignty.
