SC gives green signal to Rs 20,000 cr Central Vista Project

SC gives green signal to Rs 20,000 cr Central Vista Project

New Delhi, Jan 5 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday gave the green signal to the Centre's Rs 20,000 crore Central Vista Project.

The Top Court announced the majority verdict of 2:1 allowing the ambitious project. Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjiv Khanna approved for the project while Justice Khanna pronounced a separate judgement.

The three-judge bench held that the exercise of the power under the Delhi Development Authority Act was just and valid and that the grant of environmental clearances by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change was also valid and proper.

Five pleas were filed in the Apex Court which said modification of land use by Delhi Development Authority was improper and environmental clearances were given violating norms.

The Top Court had reserved the order in the batch of pleas on November 5.

On December 7, the Apex Court had approved for laying the foundation stone for a new Parliament house on December 10 after the government assured it that no construction or demolition work would commence till the apex court decides the pending pleas on the issue.

On December 10, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the project.

The project, announced around September, proposes a new Parliament, offices for MPs, new buildings to house central government offices and a residence for the Prime Minister.
