The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday that 2020 was the eighth warmest year since 1901 but it was significantly lower than the summer of 2016. According to IMD, the two decades 2001–2010 and 2011–2020 were also the hottest decades.
According to the data, 12 of the 15 hottest years since 1901 were from 2006 to 2020. Accordingly, the average annual temperature in the country during the period 1901–2020 showed an increase of 0.62 ° C in general.
The department said in a climate statement of India during 2020 that the average annual temperature in the country during the year was 0.29 degrees Celsius above normal. This figure is based on 1981–2010 data.
IMD stated that countrywide record-keeping began in 1901 and 2020 was the eighth warmest year since then. However, it is far below the 2016 maximum level.
According to IMD, the order of the five hottest years as per records was - 2016, 2009, 2017, 2010, and 2015.
