MUMBAI: After attracting investments totalling over Rs 1 lakh crore to the state in six months, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government has now decided to encourage women entrepreneurs.
The skill development department has set up a 14-member committee, including women representatives from UN, Unesco, Unicef and SNDT women’s university, to set up a special cell for female entrepreneurs. An Entrepreneurs Club will be set up in universities to encourage women. A GR issued by the skills department says across the country, merely 14% of women are entrepreneurs. The committee will draw up a master plan and oversee workings of the cell. It will work to incubate ideas, help expand startups and upscale units. From 2020-21, 30% of the budget for startups will be reserved for women entrepreneurs.
