Imphal, January 03 2021: Department of Tourism in associa- tion with Ibudhou Marjing Kanba Lup (IMKL) launched a cleanliness campaign at the complex of Ibudhou Marjing at Heingang, Imphal East.

The campaign was launched as a part of the Nationwide Swachhta campaign with the support of North Eastern Council (NEC) .

Speaking as the chief guest of the occasion, chairman of TCM Ashab Uddin, who is also the MLA of Jiribam AC stated that cleanliness, which is the key to growth and development, begins at home.

Compared to other States, Manipur performs very well when it comes to cleanliness and sanitation, the MLA said and appealed to the people of the State to contribute in making the Clean India Mission purposeful and in making Manipur the cleanest State in the country.

W Ibohal, Director of Tourism, presided over the event.

He said that rural tourism is popular among foreign tourists these days and as such guidelines for home stay have been uploaded at the official website of the department (Tourism).

Saying that making home stay facilities comfortable to tourists is crucial to promote rural tourism, the Director added that making bathrooms hygienic and the surrounding clean will attract tourists.

He also said that home stay facilities would become highly demanded when the Heingang Ibudhou Marjing complex is fully developed as a tourist destination.

The Director also appealed to the people of Manipur to dump scraps at proper places when visiting tourist sites.

Heingang is becoming a world-class tourist attraction due to the commitment of Chief Minister N Biren and the blessing of Ibudhou Marjing, he said.

It may be mentioned that Swachh Bharat Mission, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, or Clean India Mission was launched in 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management.

Pradhan of Heingang Gram Panchayat K Jayanta and Manipur Association of Tour Operators secretary Nivaran Nongmaithem also took part in the programme.
