Jaipur, Jan 4 (UNI) The Department of Animal Husbandry has put its staff and people on alert after scores of avian influenza (bird flu) cases were reported from Jhalawar and more suspected cases in other districts, including capital city Jaipur.
Seven crows were found dead at iconic Jal Mahal lake area of Jaipur on Sunday, taking the bird deaths to nearly 252 so far.
Jhalawar recorded over 100 deaths of birds mainly crows, followed by 72 from Baran and 47 from Kota and 20 from Bikaner.
The Principal Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Kunji Lal Meena, has directed the field officers and poultry farm owners to be on alert .
He also announced the creation of a state-level control room to monitor the situation.
Centre’s guidelines are being followed and an alert has been sounded in all districts, he said.
Over 75 samples from various places have been sent for testing, the official said, adding that the "situation is not alarming, but we are vigilant to contain it without spreading further into domestic animals."
