Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the Kochi-Mangaluru natural gas pipeline to the country through video conferencing on Tuesday. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Sunday said that this would be a milestone in the direction of 'one country, one gas grid'. The 450 km long pipeline has been constructed by GAIL (India) Limited.
The PMO said in a statement that the pipeline has a daily transport capacity of 12 million tonnes of standard cubic meters and natural gas will be transported from Kochi to Mangaluru through a liquified natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal.
The pipeline will pass through Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasargod districts. The project has cost Rs 3000 crore and has generated 12 lakh man-days of employment.
