Police arrests drug peddler; recovers psychotropic substance in Sopore

Srinagar, Jan 4 (UNI) Police on Monday arrested a drug peddler and recovered psychotropic substance from him in the apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.

A police spokesperson said following specific information, a checkpoint was established at Warpora in Sopore on Monday. “Police intercepted a person at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 192 capsules of psychotropic substance from him,” he said.

He said the accused, identified as Bilal Ahmad Lone, was immediately taken into custody. “Accordingly, case FIR No 04/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Sopore and investigation in the matter has been initiated,” he said.

He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, adding persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings,” he added.
