BSNL to allow only Indian companies to upgrade 4G core system

New Delhi, Jan 3 (UNI) With an aim to make a secure and safe communication system, the public sector company BSNL on Sunday decided to allow only Indian companies or any foreign venture, owned by Indians, to upgrade work in the core 4G system.
Expressing gratitude to the Government, head of Telecom wing in PHD Chamber of Commerce Sandeep Agrawal said this could be a game changer in the domestic telecom sector.
In a letter written to Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash, Mr Agrawal said the decision will open up an umbrella of opportunities for Indian companies.
He further said that there were two important segments in the operation of telecommunication - one that deals with radio towers and second with core segment, which is considered the brain of the telecommunication sector.
If a company works in the core of the telecom sector, then it has control over the entire communication system and access to all communication under the network, added Mr Agrawal.
This will completely eliminate the possibility of spying by foreign companies or contractors, noted Mr Agrawal.
He said that radio system can be supplied by any domestic or foreign based companies, but it would be mandatory for them to give their source code to the BSNL.
This means that whenever the government wants, it will be able to find out in just one click, whether the company providing the radio service is trying to spy or not, added Mr Agrawal.
