Anna University has decided to conduct breathing exercise practice sessions and discussions on health related matters for its faculty and non-teaching staff from this week. This is being organised to relieve them of the stress caused by COVID pandemic that claimed the lives of two faculty members and a non-teaching staff, said officials.
Chennai: According to a senior staff from the university, the initiative was planned as it is important to follow good healthcare practices to ensure that the virus did not spread after the restrictions imposed to control the pandemic were relaxed considerably. Also, breathing exercise would help reduce stress, he added.
The official added that the university has planned to conduct the class conducted by experts for 45 minutes every Saturday till normalcy restored. It would be held in the morning hours.
The initiative is expected to benefit several hundred staff, he said research articles about the role played by dry, indoor environment in controlling the spread of the virus would also be discussed during the session.
"In addition, other health aspects will also be discussed online. Feedback from all participants will be obtained on the online session,” he said, adding that the sessions would continue depending on the interest expressed by the participants.
The university official also pointed out that as the staff are working only five days a week, there would not be any additional pressure on the participants.
