Jammu Police hand over Rohingya man to Myanmar

Imphal, January 03 2021: One Md Zawkareya alias Zakria (36) s/o Basa Main, who had been in jail in Jammu for the last 7 years for trespassing into Indian territory without any legal documents was handed over to Myanmar authority today after completing his jail term.

Md Zawkareya, a Rohingya from Myanmar, was arrested for slipping into Jammu and was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment at Amphalla District Jail under the Foreigners Act.

He was released on December 29, 2020 and brought to the border town of Moreh by a team of Jammu Police today.

After completing paper works at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) Moreh today morning, Md Zawkareya was handed over to Myanmar immigration officials near Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate later today.
