MANGALURU: In a bid to ensure its students are protected from infection, Shakthi Education Trust serves a variety of ‘
kashaya’ to pupils every day. The herbal drink is served during the morning tea break.
Managements of the trust’s educational institutions in Shaktinagar say that while it is a small, preventive step aimed at halting the spread of the virus, it also promotes the use of herbs easily available in kitchen gardens. Ingesting the decoction on a regular basis ensures staff, visitors and students stay healthy, said KC Naik, administrator of the institutions. The campus has a total 360 students including 196 hostel inmates.
Naik insisted Ayurveda, which he called the science of life, propagates gifts of nature which leads to good health. “Ayurveda’s extensive preventive care helps maintain a healthy life,” he said. “It has played a vital role in wake of the coronavirus outbreak. While a vaccine for Covid-19 is in the offing, it is good to take preventive measures which boost our immunity.”
Ramesh K, chief advisor, Shakthi Education Trust, said the ingredients of the decoction include tulsi, cinnamon, black pepper, dry ginger, mint leaves, kokum, raisins, amla, lemon and dates. It is served as per the Ayush ministry guidelines. Lunch also follows Ayush recipes and is prepared with utmost care for residential students.
Dr Ashok H, the district health department’s nodal officer for Covid-19, Dr Jagadish, the district surveillance officer, and Dr Nazareth Parana of primary health centre, Shakthinagar, recently inspected the campus and appreciated the management for its preventive initiatives and adherence to protocol.
