The city saw light to moderate showers on Saturday, with cloudy skies and cold weather. According to weather experts, rainfall is expected for the next 48 hours, and bloggers predict this weather conditions to continue till Pongal.

Chennai: The maximum temperature in the city was 25.7°C and 26.4°C in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam respectively, with minimum temperatures at 24.5°C and 24.2°C. The rainfall recorded at both stations respectively was 5.5 mm and 8.3 mm.
“Over the next 48 hours, the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy in the city. Light to moderate rain is likely to occur in some areas. Maximum and minimum temperature will be around 29°C and 24°C respectively. Thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu,” said N Puviarasan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai.
Light to moderate rains with thunderstorms is expected across isolated places in the State, while the other areas are expected to have dry weather. Heavy rainfall is expected on January 4 and 5 over certain areas in the State.

“A scenario consistently shown by long-term weather models is now reflecting in operational outputs with rains likely to continue until Pongal, with possibly one more episode of heavy rains over parts of coastal Tamil Nadu as well,” said weather blogger K Srikanth, who runs the page Chennai Rains.
