HYDERABAD: In a fresh move to counter the rising graph of BJP and also win the confidence of women voters in Telangana, the Congress high commandd is planning to appoint women leaders in key posts in the state.
Rahul Gandhi is likely to take the opinion of party seniors before finalising the names of J Geeta Reddy, D Anasuya, Konda Surekha, Nerella Sarada, Indira Shoban, Uzma Shakir and Padmavathi Reddy, wife of TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy, among others, for important positions.
Apart from accommodating these leaders in key positions in various committees and making one of them as party working president, the leadership is also likely to overhaul the state Mahila Congress wing along with appointing the new TPCC president.
The decision to bring women leaders into top posts comes in the backdrop of leaders like DK Aruna and Vijayashanti quitting Congress and joining the BJP. The saffron party went on to make Aruna its national vice-president.
The AICC is also contemplating constituting half a dozen committees to minimise infighting and check a possible exodus from the party after the appointment of the new TPCC chief.
Apprehensions are rife that some of the leaders may leave the party if they do not get important posts. Veteran leader V Hanumanth Rao has openly said that he would quit if Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy is made the TPCC chief, while party MLA T Jagga Reddy has expressed disappointment on his name not being included for the coveted post.
The party high command is likely to take a final decision soon.
