Panipat: Man stabbed to death, honour killing suspected

KARNAL/PANIPAT: In a suspected case of honour killing, family members of a girl allegedly stabbed her husband to death near Bhawna chowk in Panipat city late on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Neeraj (23) of New Ramesh Nagar, Panipat city.
Family members and a police official associated with the investigation said Neeraj had married a girl from his neighbourhood around one and a half months ago. They belonged to different castes and family members were unhappy with their marriage.
The incident took place near Bhawna chowk around 7:30pm. Soon after receiving information, a police team reached the spot and he was taken to a civil hospital, where he was declared dead.
In his police complaint, Gulshan, father of the deceased alleged that Neeraj was murdered by his (Neeraj’s) wife’s brother, Vijay alias Chhota and cousin Pawan, as they were not happy with the marriage. He said they had also threatened to kill him.
Police sources said a few persons have been detained in this regard. Panipat DSP Verinder Saini said on the compliant of family members, a case has been registered under section 302 (murder) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act against Vijay and Pawan. The body has been handed over to family members and investigation is on.
