MADURAI: "Stalin can never become the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, my supporters and I will ensure it, and till this day I do not know what I did wrong to be dismissed from the DMK,’’ said M K Alagiri, former union minister and elder son of late DMK chief M Karunanidhi, in Madurai on Sunday.
Alagiri also said that he would announce his next move soon, and that his supporters should accept any decision by him.
In what may be called as a show of strength by Alagiri, not less that 10,000 people attended the event. Vehicular movement was brought to a standstill on the inner ring road in Madurai.
While the marriage hall near Pandikoil in which the event was held was filled with people, many stood outside the hall and witnessed the talk on a big screen.
An elated Alagiri entered the venue waving to his supporters and later said that he was a person who had always wanted to be only a cadre working for the party and never wanted a posting in the party.
"They spread false information about me during the muperum vizha in 2000 and dismissed me, till date I do not know what mistake I did,’’ he said.
Alagiri said that he had never wanted to work for the Thirumangalam byelections, but Stalin, Dayanidhimaran and other DMK leaders had met him and urged him to take up the responsibility.
"Kalaiganar kept calling me every one hour and I took up the responsibility and I won the elections for DMK by a margin of 40000 votes," he said.
