Punjab: Tarn Taran police seize two tankers of imported whisky

TARN TARAN: Police have seized two tankers carrying 42,000 litres of blended grain scotch whisky(three years old), worth around Rs. 2 crores.
Senior superintendent of police Dhruv Dahiya informed on late Sunday evening that the scotch whisky was imported from Amsterdam, Netherlands.
He informed that police had arrested four persons including Chamkaur Singh, Dharminder Singh, Manohar Singh and Sarwan Singh. One of the alleged accused Gursharan Singh managed to abscond.
A case under sections 61, 78(2) Excise Act, 420, 379, 120B IPC had been registered at police station Gharinda, he said.
The seized liquor was ordered by a Amritsar based company from Amsterdam, Netherlands and was brought into India via Nava Sheva Port, Mumbai.
He said that the investigation so far had revealed that the arrested accused, based in Tarn Taran and Amritsar, were hired by a Haryana based contractor working for a transportation company.
The contactor had been identified as Satish @ Tau who had hired the accused Chamkaur Singh, Dharminder Singh and Manohar Singh to transport the liquor, while the accused Sarwan Singh and Gursharan Singh had arrived at the spot to illegally pilfer the liquor.
