"DMK-Congress alliance will win Tamil Nadu assembly election," says P Chidambaram

"DMK-Congress alliance will win Tamil Nadu assembly election," says P Chidambaram

Pudukottai, Jan 03 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram said on Sunday that the DMK-Congress alliance would certainly win the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections.

Talking to newsmen here, he said the alliance would certainly win the elections as it did in the 2019 parliamentary elections. The victory of the DMK-Congress alliance was assured as soon as the AIADMK-BJP alliance was announced, he said.

Mr Chidambaram exuded confidence that there would be no problem in the seat sharing arrangement between the Congress and DMK, when asked whether there were chances of issues arising during the talks as there were many parties in the alliance. But, however, he said this was a query that needed to be asked to the DMK president M.K.Stalin.

Referring to the BJP leaders’ remarks that the party would announce the Chief Ministerial candidate of the NDA alliance in Tamil Nadu, he sarcastically said the BJP state leaders would often come up with such “jokes.”

On the people’s grama sabha meetings being held by the DMK across the State, he said there was nothing wrong in it. The Opposition leader is meeting the people as like the Chief Minister. But, attempts were made to disrupt the people’s grama sabha meetings, he said.

He lashed out at the BJP government at the Centre over new farm bills and said the government had not given up its adamant attitude on the farmers' agitation. The BJP government did not care for people’s sentiments, parliament or parliamentary debates. The exports had declined again and the unemployment rate in urban areas had risen, he said.
