COVID -19 cases minimal in Meghalaya

Shillong, Jan 3 (UNI) The numbers of Covid-19 positive cases have been minimal on the
daily basis in Meghalaya over the past few weeks, even as dry run or trial run for vaccination
against the viral infection was successfully carried out on Saturday, health officials said on
Sunday.
Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said 12 new COVID-19 cases were detected
across the state on Sunday, which included 10 in East Khasi Hills district and one each in
the West Jaintia Hills district and Ri-Bhoi district district.
East Khasi Hills, which includes Shillong, had the maximum number of active COVID-19
cases of 98 as per the latest count.
The State also recorded 13 more recoveries from the viral disease, which included ten in
East Khasi Hills district and one each in Ri-Bhoi district, South West Garo Hills district and
West Garo Hills district.
Till date, Meghalaya has registered 13,460 COVID-19 cases, including 139 deaths and
13186 recoveries from the viral disease.
Meanwhile, in view of the prevailing situation concerning COVID-19 in the state and in
order to put in place preventive and mitigation measures so the pandemic of COVID-19 is
contained, reduced and eliminated in East Khasi Hills District and Meghalaya, the District
Magistrate, East Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo in an order issued under Section 144 CrPC
read together with Regulation 3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19
Regulations, 2020, extended night curfew in East Khasi Hills District with effect from
January 2 up to January 10 for timings falling between 11 PM to 5 AM each day.
“The night curfew will not apply to medical teams and officials on COVID-19 duty, police,
security and armed forces, Civil Defence and Home Guard volunteers, wholesale and retail pharmacies, Fire and Emergency service, MeECL, NEEPCO and Power Grid, FCI vehicles,
officers and staff of corona care centres, press, print and electronic, Information and Public
Relations Department, National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd,
Shillong Municipal Board and Telecom service,” the order said.
These services shall strictly comply with all protocols and procedures including social
distancing, limiting of field staff to the barest minimum and other advisories of Government
in the Health and Family Welfare Department, without fail,” the district magistrate
underscored.
Movement of vehicles carrying essential goods, security forces, medical equipments and
shops for repair of trucks on highways are also exempted, the order said, adding, however,
that drivers and attendants of the vehicles shall be subject to medical screening as per laid
down protocols.
The order also said that curfew passes can be obtained online @ eastkhasihills.gov.in.
