(File) BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is undergoing primary angioplasty after being diagnosed with a heart ailment while using the treadmill at his home gym on Saturday. The 48-year-old former India captain is being treated at the Woodlands Hospital in South Kolkata.
In a statement, Dr Rupali Basu, MD & CEO of Woodlands, said Ganguly had a family history of heart disease and was being treated with dual anti-platelets and statin after being brought in around 1 pm. “His pulse was 70/min, BP 130/80 mm of Hg and other clinical parameters were within normal limits. His ECG showed hyperacute ST-segment elevation in inferior leads and lateral leads. Echo showed mild inferior wall hypokinesia with preserved overall left ventricular function. He is stable hemodynamically,” the statement said.

“He was not feeling well last night. However, he decided to continue his morning routine on Saturday and suddenly felt dizzy,” a hospital source told earlier told indianexpress.com.
The hospital has already formed a board of specialised doctors for Ganguly’s treatment. “He has some blockage and will do angiography. He may go through angioplasty. He is stable now,” said Cardiac Specialist Saroj Mondol.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Ganguly is stable and recovering.

Former minister and CPM leader Ashok Bhattacharya said, “Yesterday, I talked with Sourav. He is very fit and fine. I am very much astonished as to how he went through a mild cardiac arrest. We all wish him a quick recovery.”

In July last year, Ganguly had gone into home quarantine after his elder brother and CAB joint secretary Snehasish Ganguly had tested positive for COVID-19. “Sourav is stable. Senior doctors are looking after him,” said Snehasish.
Ganguly was officially entrusted with the task of heading the governing body in October 2019 at the BCCI’s General Body meeting in Mumbai, ending a controversial 33-month reign of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators.
