The city is likely to witness the year’s first spell of light rain on Sunday.
According to the Meteorological Department, the prevailing cold wave conditions and dense fog during night and early morning hours are likely to continue for the next 24 hours and expected to abate thereafter.
The department stated that the city was likely to receive light to moderate rain for three days from January 3.
The first day of the year remained partly cloudy. The maximum temperature was recorded at 17.4°C — three degrees below normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 6.1°C, which was a degree above normal. According to the Met Department, the sky is likely to remain partly cloudy on Saturday. The maximum temperature may range between 18°C and 20°C and the minimum between 7°C and 9°C for next three days.
