Naidu expresses anguish over attacks on temples, vandalizing of idols

Vizainagaram, Jan 2 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) National president and Andhra Pradesh former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed anguish over a series of attacks on Hindu temples and vandalizing of idols in Andhra Pradesh and alleged that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has turned out to be a 'betrayer of Hindus'.
"Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy may be a Christian. But thinking to use power for converting Hindus is wrong. If people in power resort to religious conversions, it amounts to betrayal," he lashed out while addressing a public meeting, here on Saturday.
Mr Naidu said that Sri Kodandarama temple at Ramatheertham has always been held in high respect in North Andhra. “In such a temple, miscreants beheaded Rama idol but the Government is not taking any steps to arrest the culprits," he slammed, and demanded the Chief Minister to explain why he had not visited the temple to express solidarity with the Hindu devotees whose sentiments were badly hurt.
“Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy has his own personal religious sentiments. He kept the Bible by his side during his swearing-in. His palatial residence at Lotus Pond carries a Cross image on it. But, it appeared that the Chief Minister is thinking that the Hindus will not deserve similar sentiments. He should realise that beheading of Rama statue was a great disgrace to the land," Mr Naidu lambasted.
Mr Naidu demanded the Chief Minister to break his silence on why his Government could not arrest a single accused person even after 125 attacks took place on temples and idols. Desecration and disfigurement of Hindu idols was taking place in AP. "If the police had arrested and punished the accused in the initial acts of vandalism, the Hindu dharma would not have come under such a severe attack like this now," he opined.
Earlier, the former Chief Minister visited Sri Kodandarama temple at Ramatheertham near hears where the idol of Srirama was vandalized in 400-year-old temple. Mr Naidu held a spontaneous dharna and squatted on the road in protest against the police for creating hurdles to block the TDP leaders' visit to Ramatheertham temple.
TDP AP president K. Atchannaidu asked why the Chief Minister broke his promise on ordering the CBI inquiry into the Antarvedi temple chariot burning. TDP Politburo Member Varla Ramaiah termed it as a failure on the part of DGP Gautam Sawang for not preventing Vijay Sai Reddy and YCP leaders from creating disturbances during the Naidu tour.
