Gurugram, Jan 2 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Gurugram police issued 630 challans for various traffic violations on New Year's eve, even as traffic police didn't use alcometers to catch offenders owing to Covid-19 pandemic, officials said on Saturday.
Challans were mostly issued for wrong parkings, driving without helmets, wrong side and rash driving in Gurugram on the December 31-January 1 night.
The Gurugram Police a separate data on these offences was yet to be compiled.
Security was beefed up across the district, especially at malls, five-star hotels, markets, restaurants, pubs and bars, to maintain law and order during new year celebrations.
All PCR vans, additional police force, PCR vehicles, Rapid Action Force and traffic police were deployed at sensitive points, according to police officials.
Police and fire tenders along with traffic personnel were deployed in areas where high footfall was expected, such as MG Road, Ambience Mall, KOD Sector 29, Sector 29 Huda Ground, Galleria Market, DLF South Point Mall, Good Earth Mall, Cyber Hub, Golf Course Road, Palam Vihar, Sohna Road and Sahara Grace.
"Ahead of celebrations, we had prepared a plan in view of the Covid-19 pendemic. We had posted messages on Facebook and Twitter and appealed the people not to drink and drive and not step outside unnecessarily. People were seen following traffic rules," said DK Bhardwaj, DCP, Traffic.
