HP: 1,154 candidates in fray for 50 ULBs

Shimla, Jan 2 (UNI) Total 1,154 candidates are in the fray for the elections to 50 urban local bodies in Himachal Pradesh scheduled for January 10, said the state election commission officials on Saturday.
The scrutiny and withdrawal of nominations concluded on Thursday following which lists of contesting candidates were displayed in all municipal councils and nagar panchayats which will be going to polls.
The candidates will be contesting for a total of 413 wards in all 29 municipal councils and 21 out of 27 nagar panchayats of the state (the six newly-created nagar panchayats of Amb, Chirgaon, Kandaghat, Nerwa, Nirmand and Anni have not been included in the election process).
Polling will be held from 0800 to 1600 hrs on January 10, and counting of votes will take place at the municipal headquarters immediately after the close of polls.
Results will be declared as soon as the counting is over and the electoral process will be completed by January 12, according to the election schedule.
Elections to panchayat raj institutions in Himachal are also scheduled for later this month.
Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) going to polls are Municipal Councils Kullu, Manali, Chamba, Dalhousie, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Naina Devi, Ghumarwin, Sujanpur, Kangra, Nurpur, Nagrota, Dehra, Jwalamukhi, Sundernagar, Nerchowk, Jogindernagar, Sarkaghat, Rohroo, Rampur, Theog, Nahan, Paonta, Nalagarh, Parwanoo, Baddi, Una, Santokhgarhand Mehatpur.
Nagar Panchayat Talai, Chowari, Nadaun, Bhotta, Baijnath Paprola, Jawali, Shahpur, Bhuntar, Banjar, Rewalsar, Karsog, Narkanda, Chopal, Kotkhai, Jubbal, Sunni, Rajgarh, Arki, Dalautpur, Gagret and Tahliwal.
