
CAT Result 2020 LIVE UPDATES: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore declared the result for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2020. A total of nine students have scored 100 percentile, of these five are from IITs. Last year, 10 students had scored 100 percentile score.
A total of 2,27,835 candidates had registered for the B-school entrance exam this year. The number of applicants is also lesser than last year. Candidates can download their scorecard from the official website, iimcat.ac.in. The final answer key 2020 was released earlier this week. Those who clear the exam will now be called for the next rounds which can include an aptitude test and/or an interview round, depending on the individual IIM.
This year, there was a change in the exam pattern due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The duration of the CAT was reduced from three to two hours. The sectional time duration of CAT was reduced to 40 minutes from 60 minutes for each section.
7 out of the nine who have scored 100 percentile in CAT are from the engineering/ technology background, one candidate is from maths background and another one is from management background.
Of the nine candidates, 5 candidates are from the IITs, and the remaining four candidates are from IIM Indore (IPM program), BITS Pilani, Thapar
9 candidates have scored an overall 100 percentile in the CAT 2020 examination. Of the candidates scoring an overall 100 percentile, 3 candidates are from Rajasthan and the remaining six candidates are from Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, Punjab, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh respectively.
As many as 15 students from the Tricity scored more than 99 percentile in CAT this year. Among toppers is Naval Mittal, a resident of Bathinda in Punjab who scored 99.97 percentile was taking coaching from Chandigarh. He has done his engineering from Panjab University. Rupesh Waishya, a resident of Dhakoli made the city proud by securing 99.8 percentile. Rupesh who has done his mechanical engineering from Punjab Engineering College was appearing for the CAT exam for the second time. He has done his schooling from Bhawan Vidyalaya Chandigarh.

Twenty-three-year-old Vishesh Garg, who scored 99.99 percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT 2020), always wanted to become an administrative officer. But the success stories of Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai inspired him to take up management as a career choice. With a 99.99 percentile in CAT, Garg now believes that has come closer to achieving his dream.
“While studying BTech in electronics and communication, I used to read inspiring stories of Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai who are shaping the world by heading technology giants like Microsoft, Google. I felt I can be a CEO one day if I manage to get admission in a good B-school,” he said.

Ekansh Agarwal a 21-year-old student from IIT-Ropar has got 99.98 percentile in his first attempt at CAT 2020. A student of BTech chemical engineering, he had started preparing for the exam from January 2020 and claims that lockdown and online had helped him prepare well for the exam as it saved him time. He believes that JEE - the engineering entrance test - is tougher than CAT as it has higher difficulty level questions. Agarwal is a native of Uttar Pradesh's Barely. He solved over 100 mocks and claims that is the recipe of success, He had enrolled in several coaching institutes' test series. At least 10 candidates have scored an overall 100 percentile in the CAT 2019 examination. This year, indianexpres.com has learnt that 9 candidates have scored 100 percentile score. The IIM-I, however, is yet to release an official statement.

CAT candidates get marks in percentile and not percentage. The Overall Scaled Score is the sum of the scaled scores of the candidate in the three sections. Percentile refers to the percentage of candidates who receive a scaled score less than or equal to the scaled score obtained by the candidate.
Congratulating students who have cleared the B-school entrance exam, the IIM-Indore director Himanshu Rai has drafted a tweet and motivated the students who failed to pass the test as well. "For those of you who get a call, all the best for the next stages. For those of you who don't, remember, there could always be a higher calling. Wish you all the very best. Have a great year ahead of you," he wrote.
Apart from the IIMs, more than 100 other non-IIM institutions will also use CAT scores this year for admission into their management programmes.
The CAT 2020 score is valid only till December 31, 2021 and will accordingly be accessible on the website. Thereafter, no queries related to the issuance of CAT 2020 scorecards will be entertained.
As per the govt norms, 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, 27% for Other Backward Classes candidates belonging to the “Non-Creamy” layer (NC-OBC), up to 10% for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidates and 5% for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD) across IIMs.
Apart from the CAT cut-off, candidates should have also scored at least 50% marks or equivalent in their undergraduate degree pogramme. For those belonging to SC, ST, and PwD category, the cut-off is 45 per cent. For students whose final result is not yet out, they will be eligible for the next round but at the time of the interview, they will have to produce their mark sheets, as per official norms.
